The Regimental Signal Detachment Commander Course (RSDC) run by the Combat Communications and Information Systems (CIS) School in Bovington is a 12-week program that trains future infantry signal detachment commanders. It covers technical knowledge and tactical use of communication systems, and leadership in commanding a detachment.
Students learn to deliver CIS lessons, conduct assessments, and plan company-level exercises. The course emphasizes responsibilities like Level one Maintainer and managing CIS equipment in barracks and field. It ensures students grasp both technical details and logistical challenges of the CIS world.
The final exercise, Exercise HERMES PEAK, challenges students to showcase their tactical and technical prowess, proving their ability to command and maintain communication under pressure. On completion the students become communication experts and advisors for their company and commander. The course’s blend of theory and practice ensures they excel in real-world communication scenarios, ensuring mission success.
In the first RSDC course of this year, Lance Corporal Youncho Hang Angdambe from The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles secured top student with an Instructor recommendation. Lance Corporal Birendra Limbu from The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles secured an Instructor recommendation as well.
