Potential Recruits for the Brigade of Gurkhas are pushing hard to be selected
Selection for Gurkha Recruit Intake 25 has been taking place in Pokhara, Nepal.
Phase 3 includes written English tests, speaking skills, interviews, and various fitness tests. This includes the famous Doko Race, a 15kg Doko basket on your back, running up a 5.8km route, with steep climbs and steps along the way.
Phase three of the selection process takes place at the British Army camp situated in Pokhara, Nepal. This year, the total number of applications surpassed 16,000.
After disqualifying candidates who failed to meet the application requirements, the process of reducing the pool to the required 274 for Intake 25 began in 2024.
The most promising candidates are subsequently invited to Pokhara in groups over a span of three weeks, and the fortunate few will learn this upcoming weekend whether they have been successful in their selection to join the Brigade of Gurkhas.
The staff at British Gurkhas Pokhara are boasted during this phase, with support from Gurkha Company Catterick, Medical staff and the AGC (Educational and Training Services).
A limited number of individuals are chosen annually to fulfill the requirements of the British Army.
Some may return to reapply if they are young and possess the motivation to do so.
For others, this may represent their final opportunity, or they may have failed to meet the stringent criteria concerning medical standards, educational qualifications, or physical fitness.
